Regulation FootballTerms
Field Goal - A field goal is worth 3 points. This occurs when a player kicks the ball through the uprights of the field goal post. Touchdown - This occurs when a player gets into the endzone for a score. A player usually scores a touchdown by running the ball in or receiving a pass in the endzone. A touchdown is worth 6 points. Extra Point - This is similar to a field goal. It occurs after a touchdown. The team that scores kicks the ball from close range for one additional point. 2 Point Conversion - This occurs after a team scores. If the team is able to get into the endzone one one play from close range they will receive 2 points. Line of Scrimmage - The imaginary line between the offense and defense. This is where the ball is snapped from. Endzone - The area of the field that you have to reach to score a touchdown. Positions Quarterback - The offensive player who throws the ball. This player is located behind the center. Running Back - The offensive player that often times runs the ball starting from behind the line of scrimmage. This player is usually located behind the quarterback. Wide Receivers - The offensive players located on the outside of the field. They usually receive passes from the quarterback. Center - The player the snaps the ball to the quarterback. This player is the first to touch the ball every play. Defensive Back - The defensive player that guards the wide receivers and running backs. Throwing -Try to keep your middle finger or at least your ring finger on the laces. -Keep the ball high by your shoulder. -Your non throwing shoulder should be facing towards your target. Catching -Keep your thumbs together for high catches. -Keep your thumbs apart for low catches. -Always use your hands, not your body to catch the ball. One or Two Hand TouchThis has most of the same rules as regulation football. The main difference is that a player is called down when they are touched with one or two hands by an opposing defender.
We will be using flags in physical education football. When a flag is pulled a player is called down. Scooter FootballThis game is played like football but on scooters.
500A football game that involves me calling out a number and throwing the ball to the students. The student that catches the ball wins the amount that I called out. The student who gets to 500 first wins. This activity allows for the students to get practice with their Math skills when adding up their totals.
