Regulation SoccerA regulation game of soccer in this class takes place in the gym, and will have 12 players on the field at one time. There will be 1 goalie, 1 center/midfielder, 2 defenders/backs, and 2 forwards/strikers on each team. The forwards/strikers stay on the offensive side of the court, and the defenders/backs stay on the defensive side. The center/midfielder can travel on either side of the court.
The object of the game is to kick the ball into the other team's goal for a score. There are two 10 minute halves. There will be substitutions every 5 minutes of play. Penalties Slide Tackling, Pushing, Tripping Hand Ball Being Inside the Goalie Box If there is a penalty, the opposing team will get a free kick from the spot the penalty occured. If there is a player inside the goalie box, a free kick will be taken from the top of the 3 point line. No one is allowed to get in front of a free kick from the 3 point line. Key Terms Corner Kick - A free kick from the corner of the field if the ball goes out of bounds past the endlines. Throw In - A free over the head throw in from the side of the field if the ball goes out of bounds on the side. Center - A player that can travel anywhere on the court. Goalie - A player who defends the goal from inside the goalie box, but can use his/her hands. Goalie Box - A box designated by cones around the goal which no one is allowed in other than the goalie. Penalty Kick - A free kick when someone has committed a penalty. Trapping - Stopping the ball with your foot when it is hit to you. Extra Information -The World Cup happens every 4 years. -Spain won the World Cup this year. -A soccer player runs approximately 4 miles every full game. |
Soccer Dribbling KnockoutThis game is played like basketball dribbling knockout. The students dribble around while trying to steal the other students’ balls and knock them out of the game.
4 Square KickingThe gym is divided into 4 squares. There is a team for each square. I put out a bunch of balls in the middle. The point of the game is to not have any balls in your square when I say “time”. The students must get the balls out of their square with whatever skill I tell them to use.
Crab SoccerThe students are split up into two teams. They must crab walk to move around the playing area. The goal of the game is to kick the ball down to the other wall all while in the crab walk position. There is one goalie that is to cover the entire wall for their team.
KickballA regular game of kickball is similar to baseball, but is played with the batter kicking the ball instead of hitting it. The pitcher rolls the ball in to the batter and if the batter kicks the ball they have to run the bases.
Soccer Round UpThis game is played with approximately 4 or 5 teams. It works on the students’ soccer dribbling skills. The game begins with many soccer balls in the middle of the field. Each team has a hula hoop and a “goalie” that stands inside the hula hoop. The rest of the players on the team gather soccer balls with their feet and take them back to their goalie. The goalie has to stay inside of the hula hoop, and the goalie also has to keep all of their team’s soccer balls inside of the hula hoop. The goalie is allowed to use their hands. The team that has the most soccer balls inside of their hula hoop when all of the balls are gone is the winner.
